Homemade Baby Food in 2 Hours

OK as a busy mom I have a few hours to knock out the meals for the week.  (Yes I work, yes I blog, yes we try to do as much as possible homemade and yes we are trying to run an Etsy business, so busy sometimes seems like an understatement).  I make everything on Sundays for the week, only fresh salads get made during the week but everything else is Sunday!

So for the baby, I make all of the baby food in 2 hours! Ready set GO!

On the menu we have apple sauce, sweet potatoes and acorn squash! Easy and healthy.

Lets start with the apple sauce: Peel and core the apples. Slice them in to chunks and put them in a medium pot. Add a cup of water. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer mixing the apples every 10 minutes or so. Cook until they are all a little translucent. Drain the apples and  place them in a mixing bowl. Save the liquid, its the best apple juice ever!  Now mash the apples, you can use a food processor, an electric mixer or the old fashioned way with a potato masher. I find that the potato masher is a bit difficult but the food processor works in seconds.

Acorn squash is even easier! Wash them and cut them in half. Clean out the guts and place the two halves on a baking sheet cut side down. Bake for 45 minute or until the top is soft (poke with a fork) time will very depending on the size.  Then when they have cooled enough to handle, scoop out the soft squash and mash.

And now the easiest! Sweet potatoes! Wash and bake until they are soft (again poke with a fork as bake time will vary with size).  Scoop out the insides when cooled and mash.  I like to place all of these in to either ice cube trays or in disposable pouches (you can buy empty pouches and fill yourself but I only do that for road trips otherwise ice cube trays are perfect).

Freeze and now you have a variety to choose from for the week.  Add a mashed up avocado in to the rotation and your baby will enjoy every bite!
